Japan: Proposals to lure investors include corporate-tax cut

A GOVERNMENT panel recommended reducing Japan's corporate tax rate as part of a package to improve
the climate toward foreigners investing in the country's businesses.

Japan's corporate-tax rate is 39.75%. The package also contains a measure to better determine when Tokyo can block foreign investment. In April, Japan blocked a U.K. hedge fund's attempt to raise its stake in a utility company, raising concerns.

Measures were to be presented Tuesday to theCouncil on Economic and Fiscal Policy.

The government is to compile its policy plan in June.
